Green Belt land at Ouchthorpe Lane, Wakefield saved

Wednesday, 20 January 2016 10:50

Appeal to develop 68 houses refused.

CPRE Yorkshire and Humberside worked with local residents to block an appeal to develop Green Belt land at Ouchthorpe Lane, Fieldhead, Wakefield WF1 2PY (Appeal Ref: APP/X4725/W/14/3001702).

CPRE submitted an objection to the appeal to develop the site and were extremely pleased with the decision to refuse this development proposal.

In his findings the Inspector ruled that “the overall impact [of the development scheme] would be to introduce an intrusion of urban development into the Green Belt countryside.”

He concluded, “It would also cause significant harm to the character and appearance of the surrounding area. Other considerations do not clearly outweigh the harm to the Green Belt by reason of inappropriateness and the other harm identified, and the very special circumstances necessary to justify the development have not been demonstrated. The proposal would conflict with policies in the Framework and development plan policies and would fail to represent sustainable development in accordance with the Framework. Therefore, having regard to all matters raised, I conclude that the appeal should fail.”

CPRE Yorkshire and Humberside will continue to fight for the protection of Green Belt land across the region.
